As of the 2010 census, the population of Inverness was 7,210 and the ideal destination for you if you are looking for a carefree vacation away from crowds, traffic, beach pollution and lines of people. The county seat for over 120 years and the center for special events both culturally and entertaining, Inverness is quite charming with it's 1912 restored court house and historic quaint shops. Surrounded by protected and managed lakes and forests, Inverness is abundant with opportunities for visitors. Citrus County is a collage of towns and villages. The architecture of the homes and businesses in Inverness, much of it wonderfully restored suggests the optimism Floridians felt at the turn of the century. Within the three hundred plus acres of passive and active park facilities, visitors will find miles of walking and jogging trails, a community pool, picnic pavilions, tennis, racquetball, shuffleboard and basketball courts, athletic fields, planned programs and spectacular events. In June of 2009, the City of Inverness was selected from state wide competition as the Most Patriotic City in Florida by the prestigious Veterans organization, the Forty & Eight. In 2008, the National Arbor Day Foundation and the U.S. Forestry Service designated the City of Inverness as a Tree City for the 14th year in a row. Who doesn't like to canoe?
